The Abortion Mandate

While everyone has been busy since February wringing their hands over the government's attack on religion, the HHS quietly slipped in another mandate--free abortions.

Here's how it works. Beginning on January 1, 2014, families who earn up to 400% of the federal poverty level (i.e., less than $92,000 per year for a typical family of four) will be eligible for federal subsidies of our health care coverage, whether purchased through an employer or in the new state health exchanges. Since most middle-class families earn far less than $92,000 per year, our health insurance will almost certainly be subsidized under Obamacare, and we will be required to pay a monthly surcharge to cover abortions, or rather, "abortion services," as our benevolent HHS prefers to describe them. No one will be allowed to opt out, and to make matters worse, the surcharge amount will not be listed separately on the monthly bill. The only time people might find out about it will be during open enrollment, provided we take the time to read the fine print in the enrollment plan.

This new rule also dances around the state opt-out laws. Even if states have enacted laws to avoid subsidizing abortions in the insurance exchanges, the premiums will still be collected and given to states that don't have such laws.

The best article I've found to explain this new abortion mandate is from National Right to Life News:

This is the largest expansion of abortion since Roe vs. Wade, and Obama and Sebelius have put it over on us while we were busy worrying about their efforts to drive the Catholic church out of the healthcare business.

Obamacare is all about control, and it seems the only "service" they will always provide--and make sure we pay for--is abortion.
